The land of steppes. The mysterious land. The land of Buddhism. The land of people. You may fall in love with it, you may explore it, you may live in it. What do we know about Mongolia? Who are its people? How and what do they live upon and what makes them go on? Their language and culture, the traditions of their ancestors — are they to any extent shaped by connection between ordinary people of Mongolia and Russia?

Roman Korobov, a doctor from Nizhny Novgorod is romancing Mongolia. It’s not an office romance, though it’s no less hectic. Fallen in love with this land and its people Roman and his wife Svetlana moved here from Nizhny Novgorod, a big city and ancient Russian trade center. They settled in a small town Erdenet.
Roman is not a down shifter as you could suppose. He is a missionary which however makes his life in Mongolia no easier. His newly-made countrymen, Mongolians, mostly belong to a peculiar religion mix of Buddhism and shamanism. Buddhist monastery is as revered by Mongolians as heathenish shrines. So it seems to be not an easy task for Roman to bring Christian values to Mongolians respecting their religious feelings..
The majority of the 60 thousand people inhabiting the town are jobless, thrown upon their own resources, and have to struggle for existence. The poorest settled not far from the town in a small village hidden by a hill so that the poverty strikes not the eye of occasional visitor or rare tourist.
